A Letter To My Children

As I sit here today and reflect back on the past thirty three years, I wanted to take an opportunity to thank three individuals who have been one of the biggest influences in my life.

You taught me some very valuable lessons; patience, forgiveness,
perseverance, curiousity, and most of all, unconditional love.

Kris, I was barely much more than a baby myself when you came along,
and we kind of grew up together.

You allowed me to work out some of the kinks of motherhood, and it was most definately trial and errors, so to speak, but somehow you managed to survive and flourish through it all. When you were ready to start school, you were faced with the fact that you had to share your space with the
"dreaded brother".

Well, you resisted quite a bit at first, but eventually decided that he wasn't so bad after all,
and was more entertaining than your play dolls.

Cody, you have always marched to the beat of a different drum,
so to speak, and never a dull moment, which made life quite interesting and just a tad more challenging from a parent's point of view.

In '76 we were all taken a little by surprise with the newest addition to the family.

Nycol, when you came along you were so tiny and petite, but made your presence well known to all very quick. We thought for awhile we were going to lose you, but you came through with flying colors, and have always been a source of entertainment and joy to all.

We all grew up and somehow managed to make it through the scrapes and bruises, and learned some very valuable lessons along the way.

Kris, you decided to venture out on your own and start your own family.

Not too long after, I was faced with the second string being cut.

Cody, you decided to let Uncle Sam be your family for awhile, and I tried to be so strong for both of us, but I think I fell a little short.

A few short weeks later, you were on your way to wherever the Air Force took you.

Well, that just left you, Nycol.
You were the baby, and I thought you would end up staying at home for a long time, as everyone else did. You certainly pulled a fast one on all of us, and decided to make your mark in the world.

I had a hard time dealing with my baby having a baby of her own, but what a precious bundle of joy you created, and just like you.

You all provided many years of joy, bewilderment, intrigue, pride, tears, and education. We somehow managed to get through all the bumps and heartaches, and now, at this point in our lives, you understand that Mom is just another individual trying to find the same thing that you are in life; a meaning and purpose, and fullfilment.

You allowed me to experience life through not only my eyes,
but those of three very unique and different individuals.

Thanks to you, I am a little better equipped.

Love,

Mom
