THE MEMORIAL KIOSK
A COMPUTERIZED EDUCATIONAL DISPLAY

On Memorial Day, May 31, 1993, a new computerized educational system was unveiled in the Veterans Room of the Visitor's Center at the DAV Vietnam Veterans National Memorial. During the week of May 20, 1996 this system was up-dated to a more state-of-the-art technology.

This system uses the latest in audiovisual technology called
"interactive multimedia". The name might sound highly technical, however, Memorial visitor's will find this system extremely easy to use, otherwise known as
" user friendly". Individuals may choose what they want to view, by simply touching the screen.

The educational system will have several pathways of retrieving information stored in its computerized archives. Perhaps most importantly to veterans, their families, and friends of the war casualties will be the Honor Roll pathway, which provides access to the names and biographies of servicemen and women who died in Vietnam. When photographs of the deceased are available, they too will appear on the screen. Visitor's may also be able to search for information through the Almanac, Geography, and Topic indexes. The Topic feature has both still life photographs and video clips that can be accessed.

The part of the main menu also includes a section on the history of this Memorial and the unique aspects of this special place. The staff at the Memorial and the Memorial Board of Directors are looking forward to this system giving veterans, their families, and all Americans a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Vietnam War and its legacy.
